SPEAKER SPLITS APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE Workload Divided for Greater Efficiency
ATLANTA--Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) today announced his decision, in consultation with House leadership and the Committee on Assignments, to split the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health & Human Resources into two separate subcommittees: the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources.
Together with the House leaders and the Committee on Assignments, Richardson has tapped Representative Mickey Channell (R-Greensboro) as Vice Chair of the newly created House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Representative Mark Butler (R-Carrollton ) as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources.
Channell, who represents House District 118, was first elected to the Georgia House in 1993. His district includes Greene, part of Oglethorpe, part of Putnam, and part of Wilkes counties. Channell is a business man by trade and lives in Greensboro, Georgia, with his wife Carolyn.
First elcted to the House in 2003, Butler represents House District 18 which includes parts of Carroll and Haralson counties. He is a real estate appraiser and lives in Carrollton.
"Splitting this very active appropriations subcommittee in two separate groups will bring greater efficiency and a more focused committee process to their work," Richardson said. "I am confident that Representatives Channell and Butler will do an outstanding job in their roles, and I look forward to working with them during the upcoming session."
