Speaker Richardson appoints a House Education Funding Study Committee
Atlanta Today House Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) appointed State Representatives Jerry Keen ( R-St. Simons Island), Larry O'Neal (RWarner Robbins), Richard Royal (D-Camilla), Jan Jones (R-Alpharetta), and Martin Scott (R-Rossville) to the House Education Funding Study Committee.

The committee will study proposals to amend the Constitution to eliminate the requirement of local funding of education by ad valorem taxation and provide instead for the imposition of a state sales and use tax for this purpose. The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 488. The study committee will end its meetings on or before the convening day of the 2006 regular session.
