Representative John Yates Honored for Service in WWII

ATLANTA--House Members honored one of their own on the Floor during Monday's legislative session, and then joined him for a ceremony at Kennesaw State University. Representative John Yates (R-Griffin) was recognized by the Holocaust Commission at the Anne Frank Museum located at the University for his heroic actions during his service in WWII.
His military service includes roles in several historical turning points, including flying over the English Channel shortly after the invasion of Normandy, for which he was awarded a medal. He also played a key role in opening up the battle lines at the Battle of the Bulge, the biggest battle of the war. The extraordinary combat veteran was a military observer of the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp, aiding in the freeing of thousands.
House Majority Leader, Jerry Keen (R-St. Simons) called Yates "a hero who walks and serves among us. Not only was Representative Yates at the Battle of the Bulge, but he was at Dachau [Concentration Camp] as one of the liberation fighters to free the survivors of the Holocaust."
"I am proud of everything I did, but I didn't think its anything that wouldn't be done by somebody else....I'd do it all over again if I was asked to," Yates remarked to fellow Members.
The ceremony included a reception, Tour of the World's Largest Anne Frank Exhibit and remarks from Governor's Floor Leader Rich Golick and Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson.
