Reese to Serve As Secretary of New Caucus

January 11, 2005

Atlanta State Representative Barbara Massey Reece, D-Menlo, has recently been appointed secretary of the newly formed Georgia Rural Caucus. The purpose of this newly formed group is to unify the voices of rural Georgia representatives.

The caucus is led by Chairperson, Rep. Jeanette Jamison D-Toccoa, Rep. Jay Shaw, D-Lakeland serves as Vice-Chair, and Rep. Bob Hanner, D-Parott, is the caucus Treasurer. The primary concerns of the caucus are to insure adequate funding for transportation needs, to protect water resources, and to assure funding for education throughout rural Georgia.

"I look forward to working with the rural caucus," said Rep. Reece. "We will work diligently to implement effective legislation that will benefit all of Georgia, especially rural areas."

Representative Reece is currently Treasurer of the Women's Caucus, Chairperson of the Methamphetamines Study Committee, and currently serves on the Career, Technology, and Agriculture Education taskforce. She previously served on the School Attendance Taskforce.
