For Immediate Release:
Day Tapped To Head House Public Safety Committee
Atlanta State Representative Burke Day, R-Tybee Island, has been named Chairman of the House Public Safety Committee by the Committee on Assignments formed by House Speaker, Glenn Richardson.
The 180 member Georgia House is broken down into thirty-four standing committees which review, by subject area, thousands of bills and resolutions proposed each year aimed to amend Georgia statute.
"I have a lot of faith in Rep. Day to lead by example and to make the tough decisions when it comes to steering the course of Georgia's future," said Richardson. "Rep. Day has many years of faithful service to the state and I have every confidence in his ability to represent the interests of all Georgians."
"I'm honored to be named Chairman of Public Safety," said Day. "The importance and scope of public safety has mushroomed since 9/11. It's no longer a committee dealing with law enforcement and speed limits, it's now global, dealing with terrorism, how terrorists are now invading our businesses with thefts of secrecy and even emptying banks of some cash. Public Safety, more than ever, is vital to tourism, the state's 2nd largest employer. People won't travel to places unless they can feel safe in their destination. We aim to make Georgia safer than ever."
Public Safety is a key standing committee which examines all legislation concerning law enforcement personnel and operations within the state of Georgia.
