Barnard To Head House State Institutions and Property Committee

Atlanta Terry Barnard, R-Glennville, has been named Chairman of the House State Institutions and Property Committee by the Committee on Assignments created by Speaker Glenn Richardson, R-Dallas.
The 180 member Georgia House is broken down into thirty-four standing committees which review, by subject area, thousands of bills and resolutions proposed each year aimed to amend Georgia statute. Without the committee system, lawmakers would become bogged down in the massive task of evaluating each bill presented for consideration. It therefore becomes the duty of the committee to sift through the mountain of proposals to find those most worthy of consideration by the full body of the House of Representatives.
The State Institutions and Property Committee is a key standing committee which examines legislation concerning all state property as well as state operated institutions, most notably the operation of the state's correctional facilities.
"I have a lot of faith in Rep. Barnard to lead by example and to make the tough decisions when it comes to steering the course of Georgia's future,"Speaker Richardson said. Rep. Barnard has many years of faithful service to the state and I have every confidence in his ability to represent the interests of all Georgians."
