HARBIN TAPPED TO HEAD HOUSE BUDGET WRITING COMMITTEE
Atlanta State Representative Ben Harbin (R-Evans) has been appointed as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee by the Committee on Assignments formed by House Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Dallas).
Rep. Harbin will be responsible for chairing a powerful committee that oversees state spending and the policy and priorities of the state's various agencies and departments. Also, all fiscal related matters must originate in the House, making it the first stop for the Governor's proposed budget.
"I have always been fiscally conservative and will work to ensure that the spending priorities adopted are the best for Georgia," Rep. Harbin said. "I am very humbled by my appointment and look forward to working with other committee members."
"I have a lot of faith in Representative Harbin to lead by example and to make the tough decisions when it comes to steering the course of Georgia's future," said House Speaker Glenn Richardson (R-Dallas). "He has many years of faithful service to the state and I have every confidence in his ability to represent the interests of all Georgians."
Rep. Harbin was elected in 1994 and has been a long time member of the Appropriations Committee.
