Jamieson Announces Funding for Stephens Airport Upgrades
Atlanta Representative Jeanette Jamieson (D-Toccoa) announced today the approval of some $207,814 in state funds to aid the Stephens County Airport Authority in financing upgrades to the R.B. LeTourneau Field in Toccoa.
Among the improvements slated by the Authority are the construction of a new runway and an overlay runway. The upgrade also calls for the installation of a sophisticated weather monitoring device which will provide data on wind direction and speed, visibility, cloud ceiling, and thunderstorm activity.
In addition to providing funding, the State Department of Transportation will also lend the expertise of department engineers to assist in the supervision and testing of the overlay runway project.
The total cost of the upgrades is estimated at $1.4 million.
"A quality airport can be key to the growth of a community," said Rep. Jamieson. "I'm glad the state could provide this seed money, as well as expertise, to help this important project along."
A lawmaker since 1984, Rep. Jamieson is Chairperson of the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. She also serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, Education Committee, and the budget writing House Appropriations Committee.
