Oliver Receives Georgia Gerontology Society Award
Atlanta State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver, D-Decatur, and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee has recently been selected as the 2004 recipient of the Georgia Gerontology Society Legislative Award. Chairman Oliver was chosen as this year's recipient because of her efforts to ensure the passage of legislation that would improve the quality of life for Georgia's senior citizens.
"I am very honored to have been chosen as this year's recipient. I am grateful that my constituents and I were able to make great strides in our efforts to ensure a high quality of life for our state's older residents," Chairman Oliver said. Oliver is the twelfth recipient of the legislative award since its inception in 1993 and was signaled out for authoring HB 229, the guardianship reform bill.
"I also am grateful for the opportunity to work on guardianship reform legislation. And I am particularly grateful for all the good work of the Gerontology Society to protect older Georgians."
The Georgia Gerontology Society was established in 1955 as a membership organization with a common interest in the field of aging. Their mission statement "promotes quality leadership in aging for the benefit of older Georgians and their families. With over 400 individual and organizational members throughout the state, the professional members represent Georgia hospitals, the state's universities and colleges, service agencies, business, corporations, and home health and home care agencies.
