Mosley Announces Meeting on Adding Container Port at Brunswick
Public Interested in Economic Development Encouraged to Attend
Atlanta Representative Hinson Mosley (D-Jesup), announces public meetings have been scheduled to discuss the potential of adding a container port at the Port of Brunswick. The first meeting will be on September 1st at 1:00 pm in the club house of the Blackshear Lakeview Country Club and the second meeting is scheduled for that same day at 4:30 pm at the Strickland Lodge in Brantley. The last meeting will be held on September 2nd at 10:00 am at the Altamaha Technical College.
Speaking at the meeting will be business leaders, local rural development councils and state lawmakers on the House Transportation Committee, including Representative Paul Smith (D-Rome) who Chairs the Committee.
According to Rep. Mosley, "Container Port Eight in Savannah which opened recently is projected to create 10,000 jobs in Chatham County and other surrounding counties. In Jasper County South Carolina a private group wants to develop their own container port and are willing to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to make it happen. In my opinion they both have done their research and they believe there is enough business to justify their investment. We should do the same for the port of Brunswick."
"Here in rural Southeast Georgia we need the jobs and these meetings will help educate all of us on the potential economic impact of adding a container port in Brunswick. I encourage all of those interested to attend," said Mosley. "Lets show the Ports Authority that we are serious about creating jobs for our area."
Rep. Mosley, a lawmaker since 1992, is Chairman of the Ports Sub-Committee of the House Transportation Committee.
