Industries in Taiwan to be Courted for Expansion in State
Atlanta State Representative Gerald Greene, D-Cuthbert, will represent Southwest Georgia on a trade mission to Taiwan that will begin August 1st and last through August 7th. He was asked to go on the fact finding visit by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman. The Taiwanese government will provide Georgia representatives of the delegation with air tickets, accommodations and ground transportation for the trip.
The tour's agenda includes meetings with high ranking officials, visits to various sites of economic and infra structural development and an exhaustive look at the Science Park, where more than 335 international companies operate with an annual turnover of $29 billion.
"Building relationships and pitching our state as a great place for business is an important component of economic development," said Greene. "Southwest Georgia has many great attributes to offer any potential company. We have a ready and able workforce, wonderful transportation available and an affordable cost of living that should be very attractive to any industry."
Taiwan is the eighth largest trade partner of the U.S. and the increasing trade volume between Taiwan and the Southeast states reached $14 billion last year.
Taiwanese investment in Georgia has recently reached $1.2 billion. # # #
