Atlanta State Representative Lester Jackson, D-Savannah, joins Dr. Darryl A. Chapman, President of the Georgia Dental Society, ACS Healthcare, and other leaders of the political, religious, and business community in inviting all members of the media to attend a press breakfast to launch a comprehensive dental health educational initiative targeting at-risk and underprivileged children in Georgia.
The breakfast will be the beginning of the 2004/2005 dental education initiative geared toward at-risk and under served communities throughout Georgia.
"Children from low-income families suffer twice as many dental cavities than their peers," said Rep. Jackson, dentist and author of the Georgia Volunteers in Dentistry Act of 2001 which allows retired dentists to volunteer their services in economically less fortunate areas. "Teacher surveys in Georgia indicate that dental problems may be responsible for as many as 51 million lost school hours each year. I think the need is clear for this kind of effort."
