BARBARA REECE HONORED BY LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN BAR
Atlanta State Representative Barbara Massey Reece, D- Menlo, was honored recently by the Lookout Mountain Bar Association. The Liberty Bell award is presented to an individual in who has exhibited leadership and community spirit in working for his or her communities and is not associated in the legal or law enforcement community.
The Liberty Bell Award was presented to Rep. Reece in the main courtroom of the Chattooga County Courthouse in observance of Law Day. "The Liberty Bell Award is given to recognize the recipient's outstanding contribution to our community and our state," Attorney Ken Bruce said in opening the program. "Each year our bar association selects an individual from our community that embodies the ideals of freedom, justice and liberty."
Law Day dates back to 1957 when the president of the American Bar Association had the idea to honor the nation's legal system. The vision became reality when President Eisenhower established Law Day in the United States by a proclamation in 1959. In 1961 Congress set aside May 1 every year as the day to honor our legal system.
"I am honored to have been selected to accept this award," said Reece, "The real honor comes in serving the people of my district."
Barbara Reece is serving in her third term as State Representative from the 11th district, which is made up of Chattooga and part of Floyd County. Rep. Reece serves on the Education (Vice Chair), Economic Development & Tourism and State Institutions & Property committees.
