Graves Tapped for House Protection from the Dangers of Methamphetamine Manufacture Study Committee
Atlanta -- State Representative David Graves (R-Macon) has been appointed to the House Protection from the Dangers of Methamphetamine Manufacture Study Committee by House Speaker Terry Coleman (D-Eastman). The committee will make recommendations to the House of Representative for consideration.
Committee members are charged with making a careful study of residual effects of exposure to toxic fumes generated by methamphetamine manufacture, particularly with regard to children. They will also investigate the best practices for scouring the site of a former methamphetamine laboratory, procedures for ensuring that such a site is a safe for human occupancy and methods for informing the public of locations of former methamphetamine laboratories.
"The abuse of methamphetamine and illicit manufacture of methamphetamine has been growing exponentially in Georgia," said Rep. Graves. "As a result we have seen many instances of tragic human injuries and extensive property damage because of these laboratories that are used to produce the harmful drug. I look forward to studying this issue extensively and am honored to have been chosen for such an important panel."
Other House lawmakers named to the study committee include Reps. Barbara Massey Reece, D-Menlo, Mike Snow, D-Chickamauga, Howard Mosby, D-Atlanta and Curtis Jenkins, D-Forsyth.
Rep. Graves serves on the Health and Human Services, Ways and Means and Regulated Industries committees.
