State Representative Jeanette Jamieson Appointed Chair of Powerful House State Planning and Community Affairs Committee
Atlanta- Today Representative Jeanette Jamieson (D-Toccoa) announced that she has accepted the appointment of Georgia House Speaker Terry Coleman (D-Eastman) to chair the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. The committee, one of the House's most influential, oversees the passage of all local legislation for Georgia's 159 counties.
"I am extremely proud that Speaker Coleman has selected me for this position, and I look forward to working with the members of the committee, city and county governments all over Georgia, and our state's Regional Development Commissions," Jamieson stated. "This committee chairmanship will give me the opportunity to call on my experience in local government and my 20 years of service in the state legislature, and I'm grateful for the chance to help improve the quality of life for Georgia's citizens."
Jamieson has had a lengthy and distinguished career in public service. She served as a Stephens County Commissioner from 1979 to 1984. Upon her election to the Georgia House of Representatives, Jamieson became the first woman to serve as the Governor's Floor Leader and the first female chair of a major House committee. She also serves as president of the Georgia Resources Conservation and Development Council
