House Passes Sims Legislation during 2004 Session
Portion of 441 North Named in Honor of Max Lockwood
Atlanta State Representative Chuck Sims, D-Douglas, announces the passage of legislation he sponsored for the 2004 session.
HR 1472 designates the first bridge south of Willacoochee between Willacoochee and Lakeland on SR 135 South as the Johnny Wayne Spivey Bridge. Mr Spivey was born December 6, 1946, and was the son of Otis and Berta Mae Spivey and proudly and courageously served his country as a member of the United States military. He gave his life on July 29, 1967, during the course of his service to and defense of his country while stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, and his heroism will never be forgotten.
HR 1473 designates the bridge between Broxton and Douglas on US 441 as the Ricky L. Crockett Bridge. Staff Sergeant Crockett, a native of Broxton, Georgia, was a mechanic with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina who gave his life January 12, 2004, during the course of his service to and defense of his country while stationed in Baghdad. He had served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and had been looking forward to his retirement this summer; and
Rep. Sims also added language to a resolution naming a portion of 441 North for the late Max Lockwood who was a past mayor of the city of Douglas and was well known throughout Georgia for his contributions to the state. Mr. Lockwoood passed away recently due to injuries suffered in car accident.
And lastly, HB 1174, which is on it's way to the Governor and will help the manufactured housing industry, a very large employer in the state of Georgia.
