DOOLEY NAMED TO REVIEW PANEL Aim Is To Reduce Child Deaths
State Rep. Pat Dooley, D-Marietta, will serve on special panel targeting at risk factors leading to child deaths.
Dooley was appointed to the post by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.
The purpose of the panel is to identify factors which place a child at risk for death and to collect and share information with state agencies which provide services to families and children.
Ultimately, the goal is to develop strategies to prevent early mortality by making recommendations which further the coordination of services identifying dangers to children in or outside the home.
The panel is empowered to investigate the complete scope of reasons for childhood deaths ranging from domestic violence to any of a full gamut of other causes.
The group, which meets quarterly, can also call for special investigations and additionally reviews the reports of committees over-viewing child deaths on a case by case basis.
A multi-powered investigative arm of state government, the Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel looks into overall trends as well as individual cases to determine ways of combating child deaths.
Dooley is Secretary of the House Children and Youth Committee and serves on the Human Relations and Aging and Natural Resources committees.
