Speaker Appoints Ben Porter to Board of Motor Vehicle Safety
Atlanta-- Speaker Terry Coleman (D-Eastman) announced today that he has appointed Ben Porter, of Macon, to serve on the State Board of Motor Vehicle Safety.
The Board of Motor Vehicle Safety is charged with the oversight of the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety. The DMVS is charged with coordinating and maintaining the state's extensive drivers' licensing program, as well as its motor vehicle registration, and insurance verification system. The Department also tasked with the inspection and enforcement of commercial vehicles operating throughout Georgia. The Department of Motor Vehicle Safety has an operating budget of $78,678,802 for the 2004 fiscal year, and there are nine members of the board.
Mr. Porter will serve in the seat vacated by John Mobley whose term recently expired.
"Mr. Porter has served this state in various capacities over the years and has shown the same kind of dedication and commitment to excellence," Speaker Coleman stated. "I chose Mr. Porter for this position because I believe that his experience in business will allow him to understand the need for state budget cuts while maximizing the services offered by this board."
