Hill Named To Blue Ribbon Panel Sexual Offenses To Be Studied
Atlanta - State Representative Victor Hill, D-Clayton County, has been named to a special blue ribbon commission which will study the response, prosecution, and investigation of sexual offenses.
The panel's sweeping mandate empowers them to review a broad list of issues concerning sexual offenses ranging from how investigations are conducted and prosecuted to local efforts to inform victims of their rights.
The commission also aims to provide a forum for public debate and consideration of options for improving the response to sexual assault offenses.
According to legislation calling for establishment of the panel, "current economic circumstances demand coordination of funding, investigation, and education efforts on state and local levels to maximize resources available to respond to sexual assault offenses."
The study promises to be thorough with lawmakers mandated to look into the serious problems faced by victims, law enforcement, and prosecutors.
Also slated for consideration is the establishment of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Review program.
"Our overall plan is to determine what we can do can do to make sure a there is the best possible response to sexual assault offenses in Georgia in the future," Hill said.
