State Loses Veteran Lawmaker
Representative Ralph Twiggs, 75, Dies
Atlanta State Representative Ralph Twiggs, 75, passed away last night (September 18th) after being admitted to the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. The 30 year veteran Hiawassee legislator had been battling cancer for one year and died of pneumonia. He is survived by 3 grandchildren 1 son and 2 daughters.
Having chaired various House Committees, the Towns native was the current Chairman of the House Transportation Committee.
"Ralph will be sorely missed," said House Speaker Terry Coleman. "He loved his family and he loved Georgia and was a very dedicated legislator."
An active member of the McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, a Mason and Shriner, Rep. Twiggs graduated from the Southern College of Pharmacy after attending Towns and Union County public schools. A respected member of the Georgia House since 1973, Twiggs represented Towns, Union, Rabun, and part of White counties.
