Buckner Joins Other Influential Southern Women for Leadership Conference
Atlanta State Representative Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) was an honored guest at the 2003
Southern Women in Public Service: Coming Together to Make a Difference leadership
conference. The bipartisan conference brings together women leaders from all levels and
branches of government, as well as the worlds of business and academia, with the purpose of cultivating more women for public service leadership roles.
Rep. Buckner was nominated by the Georgia Commission for Women to serve as a `Pacesetter' from the state of Georgia. The Pacesetter program honors outstanding women with proven leadership records in public service and holds them up as role models to encourage and inspire other women leaders to pursue avenues of greater service. As a designated Pacesetter, Rep. Buckner addressed a sizeable group of women leaders from thirteen Southern states.
"I am very honored to have been recognized for my efforts by being named as a Pacesetter," said Buckner, "But most importantly, I'm excited about the opportunity to encourage other women to step up and take a more active role in helping to solve the problems which face our cities, our counties, our states, and our nation."
Rep. Buckner Chairs the House Administrative Services Committee. She is also Vice-chair of the House Journals Committee, and serves on the Economic Development & Tourism Committee, as well as the budget writing House Appropriations Committee. Buckner is also serving a term as president of the National Order of Women Legislators which represents the 1,600 women in elected office throughout the United States.
