BURKHALTER TO SERVE ON OVERVIEW PANEL Responsible For Reviewing World Congress Center Policy

State Representative Mark Burkhalter, R-Alpharetta, has been named to the Georgia World Congress Center Authority Overview Committee which is empowered to oversee the financial, planning, and various other business activities of the convention and entertainment center. Burkhalter was named to the post by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.

"The World Congress Center is one of the country's premier facilities of its type and it is important not only to Atlanta's economy but Georgia's economy as well," said Burkhalter. "I would like to thank the Speaker of the House for his confidence in me to appoint me to the overview panel which serves as an economic engine for the entire state. I will serve with honor and commitment."

Since opening in the mid-seventies, the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) has been one of the major meeting and exhibition facilities in the United States. The complex features 1.4 million square feet of exhibit space, 12 exhibit halls, 105 meeting rooms and 2 grand ballrooms. The multifaceted 3.9 million square foot center also boasts a 1,740 seat auditorium and 2 landscaped plazas.

Rep. Burkhalter serves on the Economic Development and Tourism, Public utilities and Rules committees.
