PARHAM NAMED TO CRIME PANEL

Council Advances Criminal Justice Aims

Atlanta State Rep. Bobby Parham, D-Milledgeville, has been named to the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC).
Parham was appointed to the post by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.
The council coordinates research, criminal justice planning, and evaluates state criminal justice programs.
"The work of the council is integral to our overall criminal justice planning in Georgia," Parham said. "As a coordinating council, the CJCC works hand in hand with the legislature."
The CJCC also administers Georgia's Crime Victims Compensation Fund, which assists victims or their survivors of violent crime with financial help.
Additionally, the council applies for crime fighting federal grant money as well as facilitating financial assistance under the Violence Against Women Act.
Overall the goal of the CJCC is to promote an effective criminal justice system through partnerships among citizens, the public and private sector and other elements of the community to work to prevent crime.
Parham, who chairs the Motor Vehicles Committee, serves on the budget-writing Appropriations Committee the Rules Committee.
