DEAN TO SERVE ON OVERVIEW PANEL Responsible For Reviewing World Congress Center Policy

State Rep. Douglas Dean, D-Atlanta, has been named to the Georgia World Congress Center Authority Overview Committee which is empowered to oversee the financial, planning, and various other business activities of the convention and entertainment center. Dean was named to the post by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.
"The World Congress Center is one of the country's premier facilities of its type and it is important not only to Atlanta's economy but also that of the whole state and I look forward to my responsibilities in making sure that it runs well," said Dean.
"The impact of the GWCC in my house district, particularly the expansion along Northside Drive, creates job opportunities and I intend to see that people in my district participate in any job opportunities available," continued Dean. "I would like to thank the Speaker of the House for his confidence in me to appoint me to the overview panel which serves as an economic engine for the entire state. I will serve with honor and commitment."
Since opening in the mid-seventies, the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) has been one of the major meeting and exhibition facilities in the United States. The complex features 1.4 million square feet of exhibit space, 12 exhibit halls, 105 meeting rooms and 2 grand ballrooms. The multifaceted 3.9 million square foot center also boasts a 1,740 seat auditorium and 2 landscaped plazas.
"I can't emphasize enough the importance of the GWCC to our economy and role as international city," Dean said. "I am glad to be a part of its continuing success."
Dean, who is Vice-Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, also serves on the Health and Human Services and State Institutions and Property committees.
