Parrish Named to OneGeorgia Authority Overview Committee
Atlanta State Representative Butch Parrish, D-Swainsboro, has been appointed to the OneGeorgia Authority Overview Committee by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.
S.B. 398 passed during the 2000 legislative session creating the OneGeorgia Authority, a $1.6 billion, 25 year program to revitalize rural Georgia using around one-third of the total $4.8 billion tobacco settlement.
The authority can issue bonds in economically depressed areas for projects such as building roads, improving sewer lines and developing industrial parks. Power has also been granted to the authority to purchase land, offer tax breaks for deal-closing incentives, make loans and grants to businesses and fix old equipment.
"The OneGeorgia Authority is helping bring jobs and growth to areas that need help," said Rep. Parrish. "I will do my best to make sure it continues to bring more economic opportunity throughout the state, especially rural Georgia."
Rep. Parrish, a lawmaker since 1985, is Chairman of the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee and serves on the House Appropriations and House Rules committees.
