House Passes Veterans Memorial Resolution
Highway To Honor Banks County Vets
State Rep. Jeanette Jamieson, D-Toccoa, is pressing to name a portion of highway 441 to honor Banks County Veterans.
Legislation, sponsored by Jamieson, would designate a stretch of highway the Veterans Memorial Highway.
Jamieson is spearheading the effort because, "Our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish."
"Many residents of Banks County gave diligently and conscientiously served their country with honor and distinction as member of the armed forces," Jamieson said. "The outstanding accomplishments of these distinguished Americans should be recognized."
The resolution making the designation, House Resolution 90, has already passed the House and is being considered by the Senate.
If approved by the Senate and sent to the Governor the specific location of the memorial highway would be the Highway 441 bypass around the City of Homer.
"I will do my best to see to it that we honor Banks County Veterans in a manner which they so heartily deserve," Jamieson said.
