Thompson Plan Would Eliminate State Capital Gains Tax
Aims to Help Working Families Upgrade Their Homes

Atlanta Representative Curt Thompson (D-Norcross) has introduced a bi-partisan bill which would eliminate the state tax on capital gains.
If passed, HB 562, which was authored by Rep. Thompson would allow a family to sell their home at any time of the ownership and avoid paying capital gains taxes on the profits gained from the sale.
"If we pass my bill, young families in their first house, can upgrade to that second house for a growing family without paying a penalty," said Rep. Thompson.
If passed during the 2003 legislative session, HB 562 would take effect on January 1, 2004.
"Not only is this a boost for the working family wishing to upgrade their home," said Thompson, "But it could also stimulate the state's real estate economy, which would be good for Georgia in
