Atlanta Representative Bert Oliver, D-Glennvile, has been appointed to a SubCommittee on Sandy Springs, which is an area north of Atlanta that wants to become a city.
The appointment was made by Rep. Tommy Smith, D-Nicholls, Chairman of the House State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. Members will address legislation granting the densely populated region a new city charter.
"Rep. Oliver has an excellent understanding of the local legislative process and a keen awareness of what is necessary to be a municipality in Georgia, which made this an easy appointment," said Rep. Smith. "His demonstrated ability and leadership will contribute greatly to the effectiveness of this committee."
Rep. Oliver serves on the State Planning and Community Affairs, Banks and Banking and Agriculture and Consumer Affairs committees.
