Creation of New City to be Addressed

November 7, 2003

Atlanta Representative Wallace Sholar, D-Cairo, has been appointed Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Sandy Springs, which is an area outside of metro Atlanta that wants to become a city.
The appointment was made by Rep. Tommy Smith, D-Nicholls, Chairman of the House State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. Members will address legislation granting the densely populated region a new city charter.
"Rep. Sholar has an excellent understanding of the local legislative process and a keen awareness of what is necessary to be a municipality in Georgia, which made this an easy appointment," said Rep. Smith. "His demonstrated ability and leadership will contribute greatly to the effectiveness of this committee."
Rep. Sholar, a lawmaker since 1998, is Vice-Chairman of the State Institutions and Property Committee and serves on the State Planning and Community Affairs and Ways and Means committees.
