SMITH APPOINTS ETHANOL SUBCOMMITTEE

Atlanta State Representative Tommy Smith, D-Alma, Chairman of the House State Planning and Community Affairs Committee has named an Ethanol Subcommittee which he will also chair.
"In 2002 an ethanol committee was created to study the technical elements of ethanol production and distribution, including benefits," Smith said. "This subcommittee will now take us to the next step and determine the economics of incentives for a possible Georgia facility."
Ethanol, a renewable source of energy, is a corn based form of alcohol used to power cars. Other vegetable products are also used to produce the clean burning fuel for internal combustion engines.
The Ford Motor Company manufactures automobiles capable of using ethanol in its Hapeville, Georgia plant; but no facility exists in Georgia which makes ethanol.
Other committee member include Craig Brock, R-Chatsworth, Barry Fleming, RHarlem, Lynn Smith, R-Newnan, Wallace Sholar, D-Donalsonville, Bert Oliver, DGlenville, Richard Royal, D-Camilla, and Chuck Sims, D-Douglas.
Rep. Smith serves on the House State Planning and Community Affairs, House Appropriations, House Natural Resources & Environment, committees.
