POWELL RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
KNOWN AS CHAMPION OF DRIVER SAFETY

Atlanta State Representative Alan Powell, D-Hartwell, recently received the Legislator of the Year Award from the Georgia Association of Risk Reduction and Defensive Driving Educators (GARDE).
During a presentation ceremony, Stormi Gray, President of GARDE and owner of the Kennesaw Driver Improvement Clinic said, "Year after year Rep. Powell promotes and sponsors legislation designed to improve driver education, driver improvement and DUI Risk Reduction programs. His years of leadership have been invaluable to our association and we can not thank him enough."
Renee Eday, past President of GARDE and owner of Thumbs Up Driver Improvement Clinic in Carrolton added, "Alan is the first lawmaker everyone turns to when they want to pursue a driver safety measure. He knows these issues like the back of his hand and is trusted by law enforcement and other members of the General Assembly."
"There has been a reduction of deaths and injuries to Georgia's young drivers and it is a direct result of legislation introduced and sponsored by Rep. Powell over the past several years. We are grateful to the voters of Franklin and Hart Counties for returning Mr. Powell every two years and look forward to working on these important issues with him in the future," commented J. Barry Schrenk, President of Taggart's Driving School in Tucker. "Everyone who travels on Georgia's roads should be grateful for Mr. Powell's interest and accomplishments in the General Assembly."
Responding to these remarks, Rep. Powell said, "The fine men and women who advocate these safety measures are the true champions. Because of their passion for making Georgia's roads safe, a young teenager or family may be spared from a horrific accident. I am honored by this award and look forward to supporting even greater improvements."
Rep. Powell, a lawmaker since 1990, is Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee and serves on the Appropriations and Motor Vehicles committees.
