For Immediate Release:
Jamieson Receives Prestigious Recognition

Known as Champion of Northeast Georgia's Water Resources

Atlanta Representative Jeanette Jamieson, D-Toccoa, was recently given special recognition and appreciation for her leadership in protecting the state's water resources by the Georgia Water Coalition. Specifically, for her opposition to HB 237, which would have allowed water to be treated as a commodity and sold to an adjacent county.
According to Justin Ellis, Executive Director of the Soque River Watershed Association, "Our region was slow to realize the implications of HB 237 during the session, but the entire community is extremely thankful for Rep. Jamieson's efforts in looking after

"I am very honored to have been recognized by this outstanding group dedicated to preserving our water resources," said Rep. Jamieson. "When we talk about water issues, we're talking about quality of life. We are living in a time where quality of life issues weigh just as heavily as financial and logistical issues when deciding to relocate a business or even a person's own family."
Rep. Jamieson concluded, "Georgia cannot maintain its status as the leader of the `new South' unless it remains at the forefront of preserving its available water and improving the quality of life offered to its citizens."
