Dean To Hold Public Hearing on the Sale of Tax Liens
Atlanta- Representative Douglas Dean (D-Atlanta) will be hosting a public hearing on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. in room 415 in the Legislative Office Building which is across Mitchell Street from the State Capitol.
The subject of the meeting will be the sale of property tax liens within Fulton County. Residents, as well as all media and otherwise interested parties are encouraged to attend.
"We want to have testimony from tax law experts with regard to the legality of selling FiFa's without notice, on the first day a person is deemed late according to the Fulton County Tax Commissioner," said Dean. "We also want to hear from the people who have been hurt by the sale of the FiFas, many of whom, with a reasonable amount of understanding, would have likely been good tax payers for many years."
"This will be a forum in which interested parties can weigh in on the effects of the current system, and the people whose lives have been effected by the sales of these liens can tell their stories," said Dean. "It's important that these stories be heard so we can best gage the impact this policy has on the lives of our constituents, and our neighborhoods."
