STATE TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION ON NEW PARK FACILITY
Atlanta State Representative Newt Hudson, D-Rochelle, will be in attendance on Thursday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m. for the ground breaking ceremony for the new family and group
shelter at the Jefferson Davis Memorial State Historic Site.
"I'm very excited about this project," said Rep. Hudson, "I have been since we were able to secure the $200,000 to fund it in the Supplemental budget."
Also in attendance will be Rep. Johnny Floyd, D-Cordele, Senator Rooney Bowen, D-Cordele, as well as Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Lonice Barrett, and Bert Weerts, Director for the DNR State Parks and Historic Sites Department.
When completed the new family and group shelter, which will be equipped with both kitchen and dining facilities, will have a capacity to hold approximately 100 people and may be used for large company picnics, family reunions, or simple gatherings.
"I've always been very fond and very proud of Jeff Davis Memorial Historic Site," said Hudson. "I see this new facility as a useful addition to our beautiful park, one which could enhance its profile and bring more visitors from throughout our state and nation."
Rep. Hudson, a lawmaker since 1982, is Chairman of the Industry Committee and serves on the Appropriations and Rules committees.
