The eighth day of the 2008 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Senator Don Balfour of the 9th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct.
Senate Bills 373-382, 384 and 385, Senate Resolutions 767 and House Bill 908 were read for the first time and assigned to committees.
Sen. Bill Jackson of the 24th led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Reverend Mark Taylor of Friendship Methodist Church in Augusta, who led the Senate in the daily devotional.
Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized the Medical Association of Hall County seated in the Senate gallery.
Sen. Jeff Mullis of the 53rd took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to announce the completion and availability of the Joint Transportation Study Committee report.
Sen. John Bulloch of the 11th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to remind everyone of the United Way reception at the Georgia Freight Depot tonight.
Sen. John Douglas of the 17th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to remind everyone to visit the State of the Arts Exhibit in the Capitol rotunda. The exhibit features portraits of U.S. soldiers from Georgia, who lost their lives in the line of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sen. Ross Tolleson of the 20th took the well to invite the Senate to a lunch sponsored by the Georgia Forestry Commission.
SR 779, declaring today as Future Not a Past Day at the Capitol, was read and adopted.

Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized the wives of Sens. Lee Hawkins of the 49th and Bill Heath of the 31st, who were present in the Senate chamber
Sen. Preston Smith of the 52nd took the rostrum to introduce the Doctor of the Day, Dr. Bill Burk of Rome.
The Consent Calendar for Privileged Resolutions, consisting of SR 762-766 and 768780 was adopted.
Sergeant-at-Arms Lorenzo Wallace then escorted Senators Dan Moody of the 56th, Cecil Staton of the 18th, David Shafer of the 48th and others and their guests, the Intel Science and Engineering Fair Host Committee, to the rostrum. The clerk read SR 700 honoring the committee, and Sen. Moody spoke to the resolution.
Sen. Jack Hill of the 4th took the rostrum to recognize the Blue Key Honor Society of the University of Georgia.
SR 728, commending the Good News Clinic in Gainesville and recognizing the physicians and dentists associated with the clinic, and SR 729, commending the Health Access Initiative in Hall County, were read and adopted.
Sen. Hawkins took the rostrum to speak to the resolutions. He recognized the representatives of the Georgia Dental Association seated in the Senate gallery.
SR 743, recognizing the Georgia Forestry Commission, was read and adopted.
Sen. Greg Goggans of the 7th took the rostrum to speak to the resolution and commend the work of the Forestry Commission officers.
The clerk of the Secretary read SR 782, which outlines the upcoming schedule of the General Assembly.
Majority Leader Tommie Williams of the 19th took the well to discuss the upcoming schedule of the Senate, which was outlined in SR 782.
SR 782 was adopted by a vote of 39 to 0.
Sen. Shafer moved that SR 748 be withdrawn from the Health and Human Services Committee and be recommitted to the Government Oversight Committee. The resolution urges the Grady Health System to adopt changes to its employee health benefits plan and to require or encourage its employees to utilize the Grady Health System for primary health care. There was no objection.
