The third day of the 2008 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Senator Don Thomas of the 54th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct.
Senate Bills 338 and 343-345 and Senate Resolution 686 were then read for the first time and assigned to committees. The clerk of the Secretary of Senate also read the reports of standing committees and second readers.
Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized Sen. Nancy Schaefer of the 50th, who took the rostrum to introduce the Doctor of the Day, Dr. Terry Green of Hartwell.
After the morning roll call, Sen. Regina Thomas of the 2nd led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. She then introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Reverend Alphonso Piper of Goodwill Baptist Church in Savannah, who led the Senate in the daily devotional.
Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized students of the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, who were seated in the Senate gallery.
SR 708-715 were then read and adopted.
Following the morning announcements, Lt. Gov. Cagle reminded the Senate that the Committee of Escort, comprised of Senators Eric Johnson of the 1st, Jack Hill of the 4th, Tim Golden of the 8th, Robert Brown of the 26th, Mitch Seabaugh of the 28th, David Adelman of the 42nd and Dan Moody of the 56th will proceed to the House Chamber at 1:30 p.m. for the State of the State Address today.
President Pro Tempore Johnson then moved the Senate stand in recess until the dissolution of the joint session, then adjourn until 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 17.
