Report for Thursday, February 1, 2007
The thirteenth day of the 2007 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Senator Don Balfour of the 9th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct.
Senate Bills 89-98, Senate Resolutions 130, 133 and 136 and House Bill 90 were read for the first time and assigned to committees. The clerk of the Secretary then read the reports of standing committees and second readers.
There were no unanimous consents.
Sen. Balfour moved to dispense with the morning roll call due to inclement weather. Lt. Gov. Cagle then recognized Sen. Mitch Seabaugh of the 28th, who took the rostrum to lead the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Sen. Seabaugh introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Pastor Ken Adams of Crossroads Church in Newnan, who led the Senate in the daily devotional.
Sen. Ross Tolleson of the 20th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to urge Senators to support the forestry industry in their budget considerations.
Lt. Gov. Cagle then recognized Sen. Balfour, who took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to thank Senators for their condolences on the passing of his father, Reverend Donald K. Balfour.
Sen. Jeff Mullis 53rd took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to note the packages of turf left on each Senators' desk, which comes from the Philip Jennings Turf Farm and is a sample of the turf that will be used on the Super Bowl XLI field this year.
SR 131-132 and 134-135 were then read and adopted.

Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized Sen. Jack Murphy of the 27th, who took the rostrum with his guests, the Georgia Association of Primary Health Care, accompanied by Senators Don Thomas of the 54th and George Hooks of the 14th.
The Secretary then read SR 100, which recognizes February 1, as Community Health Centers Day. Sen. Murphy took the rostrum to speak to the resolution and honor his guests.
Following the announcements, Majority Leader Tommie Williams of the 19th moved that the Senate stand adjourned until 9:00 a.m., Friday, February 1.
