The second day of the 2007 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Senator Don Balfour of the 9th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct.
Senate Bills 15 and 17-19, and Senate Resolution 20 were then read for the first time and assigned to committees.
Following the morning roll call, Lt. Gov. Cagle led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Dr. William L. Sheals of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Norcross, who led the Senate in the daily devotional.
Lt. Gov. Cagle then recognized former Senators Don Cheeks and Mike Crotts on the floor of the Senate.
Lt. Gov. Cagle greeted the Senate and welcomed members to the 2007 session. He also introduced former Dean of the State Senate, Sen. Terrell Starr. Lt. Gov. Cagle then introduced the new staff members of the Office of Lieutenant Governor.
There were no unanimous consents.
Sen. Balfour rose on a Point of Personal Privilege to speak on the recent passing of his father, Reverend Donald K. Balfour. The Senate stood for a moment of silence to honor Sen. Balfour's father.
Sen. Jack Hill of the 4th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to encourage members to contribute to the Senate flower fund.
Sen. Judson Hill of the 32nd took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to welcome members to the 2007 session, including Lt. Gov. Cagle.

Minority Leader Robert Brown of the 26th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to commend Lt. Gov. Cagle's efforts to further move the Senate in a bipartisan direction.
SR 10-19 were read and adopted. Sen. Greg Goggans of the 7th then introduced the Doctor of the Day, Dr. William Clark of Waycross. The Secretary read House Resolution 10, calling a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate for the purpose of hearing Gov. Sonny Perdue's State of the State address. HR 10 was adopted by a vote of 40 to 0. Lt. Gov. Cagle then appointed a Committee of Escort, consisting of Sens. Eric Johnson of the 1st, Tommie Williams of the 19th, Brown, David Adelman of the 42nd, Dan Moody of the 56th and Tim Golden of the 8th. The Secretary read House Resolution 11, which is relative to the adjournment schedule of the Senate. Majority Leader Williams took the well to speak to the upcoming schedule of the Senate. HR 11 was adopted by a vote of 46 to 0. Following the announcements, Majority Leader Williams moved to stand adjourned until 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10.
