The fifth day of the 2007 legislative session was called to order by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.
Senator Don Balfour of the 9th stated that the journal had been read and was found to be correct.
Lt. Gov. Cagle introduced Judge John J. Ellington to administer the Oath of Office to Sen. Gloria Butler of the 55th, who missed the initial swearing-in ceremony due to illness. Sen. Butler took the Oath of Office and was officially sworn in for the 2007-2008 term.
Senate Bills 1, 4 and 25-30, and Senate Resolution 49 were then read for the first time and assigned to committees.
Following the morning roll call, Lt. Gov. Cagle recognized Sen. Tim Golden of the 8th, who led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. He then introduced the Chaplain of the Day, Reverend V.L. Daughtery of Valdosta, who led the Senate in the daily devotional.
There were no unanimous consents.
Sen. Vincent Fort of the 39th took the well on a Point of Personal Privilege to discuss certain issues from the 2006 legislative session and the Senate Rules.
Lt. Gov. Cagle then recognized Sen. Horacena Tate of the 38th, who introduced the Doctor of the Day, Dr. Spencer Brewer of Atlanta.
SR 34-48 and 50-52 were read and adopted.
Sen. Chip Rogers of the 21st moved to withdraw SB 16 from the Judiciary Committee and commit the legislation to the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. There was no objection.
Following the announcements, Majority Leader Tommie Williams of the 19th then moved that the Senate stand adjourned until 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 23.
