eight of the last nine months. The government sector
added 1,800 jobs over the month, thus continuing an
upward trend for the fourth month in a row.
Construction shed 1,400 jobs in April, marking the third straight month the sector experienced a loss. The decline in manufacturing employment comes as jobs in durable goods shrank by 1,100 and non-durable goods lost 100 positions. Ending a three-month long growth streak, the education and health services sector contracted by 500 jobs over the month. Employment in the other services sector fell by 300 in April.

From April 2021 to April 2022, employment in Georgia is up 252,000, or 5.6 percent. Professional and business services (+64,100 jobs), trade, transportation, and utilities (+62,700 jobs), leisure and hospitality (+41,700 jobs), education and health services (+26,300 jobs) and manufacturing (+18,000 jobs) added the most jobs over the year.
In April 2022, Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) held steady at 3.1 percent over the month. Georgia's unemployment rate remains well below the 3.6 national average. Over the year, the rate is down from 4.3 percent in April 2021.
