Construction employment decreased by 2,700 in May after being down 2,000 in April. Trade, transportation, and utilities lost 1,300 jobs in May after shedding 6,700 jobs in April. The retail trade portion of the sector cut 1,100 jobs in May while transportation, warehousing, and utilities also cut 1,100 workers, and wholesale trade employment grew by 900. Financial activities employment dropped by 900 in May after declining by 400 in April. The May job loss is a sum of 500 jobs being cut in finance and insurance along with 400 job losses in real estate and rental and leasing.

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 295,800, or 7.1 percent. Leisure and hospitality (+83,800 jobs), trade, transportation, and utilities (+61,000 jobs), professional and business services (+57,200 jobs), and education and health services (+39,600 jobs) have added the most jobs from May 2020 to May 2021.
Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) declined to 4.1 percent in May from 4.3 percent in April 2021. Over the year, the unemployment rate is down from 9.4 percent in May 2020.
