June. Education and Health Services grew by 2,100 positions over the month. Health Care and Social Assistance gained 2,600 jobs, while Educational Services fell by 500 jobs in June.

Other Services employment grew by 700 in May but fell by 3,000 in June. After four months of growth where nearly 5,000 jobs were created, Information employment decreased by 900 over the month. After gaining jobs for 15 straight months, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities has now lost employment for two months in a row with 500 jobs lost in May and 300 jobs lost in June. Retail Trade and Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities accounted for 400 and 700 of the June employment decrease, respectively, while Wholesale Trade gained 800 jobs.

Over the year, Georgia has added 123,200 jobs to its economy. Professional and Business Services (+34,200 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+23,100 jobs); and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+21,900 jobs); have added the most jobs over the year.
Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) decreased in June 2016, from the revised rate of 5.3 percent in May to 5.1 percent in June. Over the year, the unemployment rate is down from 5.8 percent in June 2015.

New Developments

Software development company Keysight Technologies has announced plans to expand the company by opening a location in Atlanta. The provider of electronic design and test software, equipment, and services plans to open a $14 million software development center in Atlanta's Midtown Tech Square. The project is expected to create more than 200 software engineering jobs. Keysight Technologies is headquartered in Santa Rosa, CA and its ties to Georgia Tech impacted its decision to have a facility in Tech Square.
Polymer Logistics has said it plans to invest more than $4 million in Dublin, Ga. as it moves to place its next U.S.-based facility there and create about 110 jobs. The company makes retail-ready packages and is expected to locate a logistics and distribution center in Laurens County. The company currently operates two service centers in California and another in Texas. The new plant in Dublin will be 73,500 square feet and located on Best Buy Road across from the Best Buy distribution center. The company plans to begin distribution in January 2017. The ecofriendly plastic containers and pallet pooling services that the company provides are used by major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Carrefour.
Publix plans to open a new store at the Jonquil shopping center in Smyrna, Ga. Jonquil, a mixed-use development under construction on a 12-acre site at the corner of Atlanta and Spring Roads in Smyrna, is planned to open in spring 2017. The national grocer is expected to bring over 100 jobs to the community when it opens. The 45,600 square foot Publix at Jonquil will include a pharmacy and serve as the anchor store of the 60,000 square foot Jonquil shopping center.
Apparel company thredUP recently announced plans on coming to Gwinnett

County. The San Francisco-based online consignment company plans to set up a warehouse and distribution center at an existing facility it will renovate on Breckinridge Blvd in Gwinnett County near Duluth. The move is expected to create up to 300 jobs. thredUP buys and sells used women's and children's clothing and accepts clothing from more than 25,000 women's and children's brands and resells the items for up to 90 percent off the original retail prices. Inspection, quality assurance, inventory and human resources management positions are expected to be created at the new facility.
Amazon, the Seattle-based online retailer, announced plans on building a new fulfillment center in Braselton, Ga. The company expects to create more than 500 jobs in the area. The employees will be working at a new 600,000 square foot building in Jackson County where they will pick, pack and ship large items for customers. Amazon has said it currently employs more than 1,500 full-time employees in Georgia and there are more than 70,000 authors, sellers and developers statewide growing their businesses and reaching new customers by selling items through Amazon.
GE Digital has said it plans to establish its first global Digital Operations Center in Atlanta. The move is part of the company's effort to bring together digital capabilities from across GE in a single organization, providing customers with industrial solutions and software needed to solve real-world problems. The new center in Atlanta is said to be around 30,000 square feet and will be located in the midtown area. GE Digital plans to create 250 jobs with this project. Some of the positions will be engineers, customer support reps, and system administrators.
