New Developments
Norcross-based company Suniva, Inc. has announced plans to create around 500 new manufacturing jobs and expand its facilities in Gwinnett County. The company will invest $96 million towards the expansion. Suniva, Inc., is a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells and modules. Suniva's cells can convert about 20 percent of the sun's energy into electricity, meaning fewer cells are needed to produce the same energy output. A major investor in Suniva is Hong Kong-based Shunfeng International Clean Energy which owns about a sixty-three percent share of the company.
CareSource has said it will set up its regional headquarters in Atlanta and create 300 jobs. CareSource is a Dayton-based health care business that plans to have a leadership team in place in Atlanta by the end of 2015 to help manage its successful bid to provide Medicaid managed care services for an estimated 200,000 Georgia beneficiaries. This expansion will bring 100 jobs to the Dayton headquarters and 200 jobs to the future Atlanta headquarters. CareSource, was the only new vendor among four companies that received contracts from the Georgia Department of Community Health after intense statewide competitive bidding. As a nonprofit, CareSource has low administration costs and spends at least 90 percent of its revenue on direct medical care for consumers, setting it apart from the for-profit health insurers that bid for contracts. The company had total revenue of $5.4 billion in 2014. CareSource will compete for enrollment with Anthem, Centene and WellCare -- health insurers already operating in the state.
A Newnan-based manufacturing company, Elite Foam, has said it plans to bring in 150 jobs to Coweta County in early 2016. The manufacturing company specializes in the production of specialty flexible polyurethane foam used in the bedding industry. Elite Foam purchased the former Insteel building on Herring Road and
plans to add new equipment at the building and at its existing facility on Sprayberry Road in Newnan. Beginning in early 2016, the company plans to hire the new employees with a total project investment of $2.5 million.
Kubota Manufacturing of America recently broke ground on its 502,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Hall County. The facility is being built on 180 acres of land at Gateway Industrial Centre in Gainesville. The company will manufacture RTV series utility vehicles at the plant. The project should create up to 650 jobs and is an investment of $100 million. Located a few miles from KMA's existing facilities, the new plant hopes to start production in Spring of 2017 and looks to produce 50,000 units per year.
Sandler AG, a German-based textile supplier, has announced that the city of Perry in Houston County will be the location for its new manufacturing plant. The move will bring an investment of $30 million and up to 140 jobs to Perry and Houston County as the company looks to locate off Perry Parkway, at the corner of Airport Road. Sandler AG is a privately-owned company that supplies textiles to international manufacturers, including a number of Fortune 500 companies. Sandler plans to use a current 100,000 square foot building and add additional structures to it. The facility will function as a production plant, warehouse and base for national sales and distribution. The company will begin recruiting employees and filling jobs for the facility in early 2016.
Lens-maker Alcon Laboratories will invest around $275 million in their Johns Creek location. This investment could create up to 300 jobs for the area. The Fort Worth, Texas-based eye care-products maker will boost production of a variety of contact lens products at its metro Atlanta campus. Atlanta beat out Singapore and Germany for the Alcon Lab expansion.
Note: Information in New Developments are from a variety of public sources and by no means are a comprehensive listing of new and expanding business in Georgia
