New Developments

Haso USA, a Tokyo-based manufacturer of personal use cleaning products recently announced plans to open a U.S. manufacturing facility in Peachtree Corners. The location represents a $7 million investment and will create 170 jobs in Gwinnett County. The company plans to lease a 100,000-square-foot building at 2850 Colonnades Court and will manufacture personal wet wipes -- including baby wipes, flushable wipes and disinfecting wipes -- as well as wet and dry mopping wipes and fluff dusting products.
PolyTech Fibers LLC recently announced that it will invest more than $12 million in Murray County during the next three years with plans of creating 114 jobs as it opens an 80,000-square-foot facility at 2017 Highway 411 North in Chatsworth. The polyester fiber manufacturing company plans to manufacture and distribute several kinds of regenerated/recycled polyester staple fibers for the automotive industry, as well as the filter sector, nonwoven sector and commercial/residential and high-end furnishing fillers at the location.
Royal DSM announced that a polymer plant will be built next to its existing Augusta facility on Columbia Nitrogen Drive. Netherlands-based DSM, a global provider in health nutrition and materials, is investing $85 million in the new facility. The plant will produce a plastic film used for packaging foods and medical devices. The existing DSM plant makes caprolactam, which is the building block of a nylon monomer used in carpet, electronics and automotive plastic. Construction of the new plant should be completed in mid-2016.
Walmart has announced plans to open a fulfillment center in mid-2015 near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to process online orders and hire 400 people as the company plans to invest more heavily in its e-commerce business and less in bricks-and-mortar stores. The 1.2-million-square-foot facility will be at the

Majestic Airport Center IV Industrial Park in Union City at South Fulton Parkway and Stonewall Tell Road, about six miles from the Atlanta airport. The fulfillment center will allow Walmart to ship online orders more quickly and cost-effectively to homes or to stores for customer pickup. The company said it plans to spend between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion in 2015 on e-commerce and digital initiatives, up from $1 billion in 2014.
International tire company Kumho Tire is building a manufacturing plant in Macon. Plans call for the 907,417-square-foot plant to be located on 150 acres off Georgia Highway 247 in the Sofkee Industrial Park to employ about 450 people. It is slated to begin production in early 2016. The project, first announced in January 2008, was delayed by the subsequent global financial crisis, but the company remained committed to Macon.
Acuity Brands, a leading provider of indoor and outdoor lighting solutions, will spend $16 million over the next five years and create 700 new jobs as it expands operations in Rockdale and DeKalb counties. The company plans to build a world-class engineering and technology center in Decatur and will invest in facility upgrades at its complex in Conyers. Acuity will invest about $5 million in capital improvements at its facilities in Rockdale and plans a $11 million transformation to retrofit an existing 167,000-square-foot building to become its new state-of-the art engineering and technology center in DeKalb.
Kubota Manufacturing of America (KMA), a leading global manufacturer of small tractors, RTVs and lawn mowers, will expand its headquarters in Gainesville. The company will investment $100 million over the next several years, a move that is expected to create 650 jobs. Kubota plans to break ground on the new facility, which will be on a 180-acre site in the new Gateway Industrial Centre on I-985 north of Gainesville, in early 2015.
