November 2014 Employment Situation
Georgia payroll employment was up 23,400, or 0.6 percent, in November. Sectors with the largest job growth from October to November include Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, Government, Financial Activities, and Leisure and Hospitality. Construction and Professional and Business Services lost jobs over the month.
Employment in Trade, Transportation, and Utilities grew for the third month in a row with 16,000 jobs added in November. Though the Wholesale Trade portion of the sector lost 2,600 jobs over the month, Retail Trade employment was up 16,300 and Transportation and Utilities added 2,300 new positions. Government jobs grew by 5,300 in November and are now up for a fourth straight month. Federal jobs grew by 400, state jobs were down 200, and local government employment was up 5,100 in November. Financial Activities employment was up 1,600 in November, its largest job gain this year. Leisure and Hospitality positions increased by 16,000 over the month with Accommodation and Food Services accounting for all the gains.
Manufacturing jobs were up 1,100 in November after the sector had lost positions for two months in a row. Education and Health Services employment increased by 1,000 in November with 800 of the jobs in Educational Services and the remaining 200 in Health Care and Social Assistance. Information jobs grew by 500 in November and Other Services added 900 positions over the month.
Construction employment is down 2,300 in November and has now declined for two of the last three months. Professional and Business Services lost 2,100 jobs in November after adding 7,000 jobs in October.
Over the year, Georgia has added 98,800 jobs to its economy. Trade, Transportation, and Utilities is the sector that has added the most positions (+29,100 jobs) over the year, followed by Professional and Business Services (+26,900 jobs), Leisure and Hospitality (+17,500 jobs), and Manufacturing (+7,800 jobs).
Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) fell for the third month in a row in November, from the revised rate of 7.6 percent in October to 7.2 percent in November. Over the year, the unemployment rate is down from 7.6 percent in November 2013.

New Developments

Food processing company, Lake Foods is expanding its operation in Hart County. The company purchased and began modifying an existing building in Hart County and looking to expand to 250 employees within three to five years. The 62,000-square-foot facility is located in Hart County's Industrial Park, located on U.S. 29 near Hartwell and houses a processing center and refrigerated inventory storage.
Chaparral Boats Inc. has said it will expand its existing facility in Berrien County and create 50 jobs. The fiberglass boat manufacturer, based in Nashville, GA, employs nearly 600 Georgians in Berrien County, which is about two hours south of Atlanta.
Neaton Rome, makers of steering wheels, airbag modules, interior and exterior trim and other automobile items, primarily for Honda and Nissan models, recently announced another expansion of its facility at 1635 Technology Parkway in Rome. The $8 million expansion of the plant will create at least 50 new jobs pushing employment at the plant to near 500 by the end of 2016. Neaton produces a lot of equipment for the Nissan Murano and Rogue model cars.
TravelSky, an information technology solutions developer for the airline and tourism industries, recently opened its U.S. research and development center in Gwinnett County. The company develops software applications and services for the management of travel-related information and is expected to create 30-50 new jobs at the Duluth facility, which is located at 3700 Crestwood Parkway, and bringing with it a $10 million investment in the community.
Gulfstream Aerospace has announced plans to build a $33 million state-of-the-art paint facility on property in Savannah near Savannah/ Hilton Head International Airport. The facility will be near Gulfstram's 680,000-square-footplus maintenance building, the largest business

aviation maintenance facility in the world, and should be finished in summer 2015. The hanger will be one of the most advanced hightech paint hangars ever built and is expected to bring 100 new jobs, adding to the company's more than 10,000 workers in Georgia.
Oilon, an energy and environment technology company, has announced that it will open its first U.S.-based office and warehouse in Thomasville. The facility at 110 Lee Street will be the company's North American manufacturing operations, providing industrial burners and other related equipment to its customers in North America. It is expected that the move will bring with it about 50 jobs over the next five years. Oilon makes products used in power plants, waste incineration and marine boilers and district heating plants for heating/cooling large buildings and for heating private houses.
Retail giant Walmart is constructing a new Neighborhood Market in Albany at Gillionville Road and Westover Road. The new location is expected to hire 95 new associates in advance of its grand opening in December 2014. The store, one of the company's first neighborhood markets in South Georgia, will feature a full line of grocery items and a gas station.
Kimball Midwest, a distributor of tools, supplies and other needs for the maintenance, repair and operation industry, has said it will open a distribution center in Savannah in late 2014. The new location will serve as the company's southeast distribution center and office. The 142,000-square-foot facility will house Kimball Midwest's extensive inventory of nuts and bolts to cutting tools and chemicals. The new location will allow some 95 percent of customers serviced from the new center to get next-day service on their orders.
