New Developments

A carpet backings producer company from Dubai and Saudi Arabia has announced that it will expand its operations in Georgia. Mattex will invest $60 million and create 200 jobs over a three year period as they move to build an extrusion manufacturing plant in Murray County. The plant will be the company's U.S. headquarters and its first manufacturing facility outside the Middle East. Plans are for the manufacturing facility to be between 275,000 and 375,000 square feet with construction to start in summer 2013 and operations beginning in 2014. Headquartered in Dubai, Mattex Group is a leading provider for polyolefinbased textiles, developing and producing primary and secondary carpet backings, artificial grass backings and woven and nonwoven geotextiles.
A Dawson County steel fabricating company plans to add more than 150 jobs over the next three years at its plant in Dawsonville as it prepares to supply parts to the new Caterpillar facility. Impulse Manufacturing will produce parts for several small excavators that will be produced at the new Caterpillar production plant near Athens. The 850,000 square foot Caterpillar plant is expected to directly employ 1,400 workers once it is fully operational. Impulse Manufacturing will ship parts to the plant daily via truck.
PointClear Solutions, a Healthcare software company, has announced that it will relocate its headquarters to Atlanta. PointClear designs and develops customized and healthcare technologies for hospitals, health systems and physician practices by partnering with health IT vendors. The company plans to bring 200 tech jobs over the next three years as it moves its headquarters in Dunwoody.
Engineered Floors announced that it will invest $450 million over five years in two new carpet plants in northwest Georgia. The two facilities, in Whitfield and Murray Counties, would employ 2,400 people. The factory in Whitfield County will create 1,000 jobs and the plant in Murray County would create 1,400 jobs. Engineered Floors has been focusing on the growing apartment sector and makes stain-resistant and colorfast PureColor

next-generation solution dyed polyester fiber with SoilShielf for residential replacement and multifamily housing carpeting. The company's first plant was built in 2009 in Calhoun, Georgia.
Software company Overgroup Consulting has relocated its headquarters to Atlanta. Overgroup has leased nearly 5,000 square feet of space in Atlantic Station and has relocated 25 employees to its office with plans to add 15 additional jobs in the next few years. The company develops billing and back-office software for telecom providers.
Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins has announced that it will expand. Construction on a $40 million renovation and expansion of the medical center has begun and the project will likely be complete by 2015. Houston Medical plans to add to the east side of the Warner Robins location. The expansion will include new surgical suites, more pain clinic rooms, outpatient surgical rooms and a central waiting area.
Suniva Inc., a maker of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells and modules, has said it plans to add 48 jobs at its Norcross headquarters. The company is looking to hire for positions including those on the manufacturing line and supervisory jobs. Suniva is expanding module assembly operations to boost its capacity for Buy America Act compliant modules.
An alternative energy project in DeKalb County has been approved by Georgia environmental regulators. The state Environmental Protection Division has signed-off on an air permit to South Carolina-based Green Energy Partners to build and operate a plant that will convert biomass into electricity. The fuel source will be clean yard waste the company will buy from the county. Green Energy Partners has a long-term contract to sell the electricity the plant produces to Georgia Power. The plant will have a generating capacity of 11.5 megawatts. Boilers for the facility will be made by Hurst Boilers & Welding Co. Inc., which is a Georgia company.
