New Developments
A new employer in Columbia County plans to hire 400 employees over the next five years. Urban Outfitters will open a 40,000 square foot customer care center in Martinez. Initially 200 workers will be hired then the remaining 200 will be added over the next five years. The company is a specialty clothing and lifestyle company with a strong online presence and stores throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. They also own the Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain and BHLDN brands.
A healthcare software company will relocate its headquarters to DeKalb County and bring 200 new jobs. PointClear Solutions designs and develops customized and healthcare technologies for hospitals, health systems and physician practices by partnering with health IT vendors. The new headquarters will be located in Dunwoody and should have the full compliment of employees in place in about three years.
In Forsyth County a company with ties to the aerospace industry will build its new headquarters. Bright Light Systems was founded with 2010 to develop prototype of an energy-efficient LED fixture for NASA's Space Shuttle Program. The company helps its customer reduce energy consumption by up to 85 percent. The new headquarters, and its 50 employees located off of McFarland Parkway, will help the company combine hardware and software solutions that reduce energy and maintenance costs while improving the environmental impact of light pollution and providing employees with a safer work environment.
A new project in Gwinnett County will result in the largest movie studio in the Southeast. With the state enjoying solid momentum in the film industry lately Jacoby Development expects their dozen sound stages included in the project to be fully occupied as soon as they are completed. The campus will contain buildings totaling 400,000 square feet.
Lowndes County has been selected by a pharmacy benefit processing company to provide 125 people to work in home-based customer service roles. Express Scripts will coordinate their hiring efforts with the Valdosta office of the Georgia Department of Labor. The company's new hires will help manage patient requests.
There is some good employment news in Muscogee County that will counteract part of some previous bad news. Hostess now under the new management of Apollo Global Management will reopen its Dolly Madison bakery in Columbus. Although the types of jobs needed to make up the 300 total positions necessary will have some slight differences the company will soon be producing their famous Twinkies, Ding Dongs, HoHos, and Zingers once again.
Whitfield County and Murray County will get a large workforce boost as a leading flooring manufacturer has announced that they will build two facilities. Engineered Floors has plans to erect a manufacturing plant in Murray County and a large distribution center in Whitfield County. The exact locations are yet to be determined, but once the two operations reach full capacity the company expects to hire 2,400 employees.
A steel fabricating plant in Dawson County will expand to meet the demand for its products at the new Caterpillar facility near Athens. Impulse Manufacturing will add 150 jobs over the next three years at its Dawsonville location. The company will provide parts for several types of small excavators that Caterpillar will be producing.
An Indianapolis-based marketing software firm will locate its regional headquarters in Fulton County. ExactTarget will bring more than 200 jobs to Buckhead in the expansion. The project will double the company's footprint locally. The company is a leader in the e-mail marketing space and is now moving into the social media sector.
A Muscogee County insurance company plans to hire 200 new people to be able to meet the demand of the new clientele they are expecting with the implementation of the Patient Protection, and Affordable Care Act. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia is preparing their Columbus facility to be able to meet the demand of their portion of the 40 million currently uninsured residences of the United States who will be affected by the legislation.
