New Developments

A new employer in Charlton County has planned to begin operations in April of this year. Lifestyle Cabinetry will open in Okefenokee Industrial Park in Folkston and hire 45 employees. The company is a division of Universal Forest Products and the expectations are the demand for their product line manufactured at this facility will double over the next 12 to 18 months.
A California company looking for skilled employees has found the object of their search in Dodge County. Although the facility is still in the design phase Aremac Heat Treating LLC expects to open their Eastman plant during the third quarter of this year. The company provides numerous services, including hardening, tempering, vacuum heat treating and more. Some of their clients include Boeing, Bombardier, Honeywell, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Goodrich. They plan to hire 60 for their new operation.
In Effingham County the local Industrial Development Authority has set the stage for a $90 million motion picture studio to be built. The result of the negotiations with Medient Studios Inc. is expected to create 1,200 jobs. The company chose the area for the good weather and the South Georgia lifestyle. The new facility located off of I-16 will be environmentally friendly, using no carbon producing vehicles.
A Mississippi-based company plans to build a multi-million dollar mineral separation facility in Pierce County. The Southern Ionics mineral sand plant in Offerman will process mineral sands from two mines in Charlton and Brantley Counties. The operation is scheduled to start production in early 2014. They will hire 35 new employees to operate the facility.
A Carroll County supermarket has been in the process of expanding and expects this growth phase to be complete by October of this year. The $20 million renovation that the Kroger in Carrollton has undertaken will add 150 new jobs in the area. The hiring will be done in stages as the remodeling phases are complete. The completed project will include gas pumps and a pharmacy.
An IT giant in Cobb County will initially add 200 new jobs with plans to add a total of 500 jobs

over the next two years. Infosys, Ltd, headquartered in Bangalore, India provides IT consulting and business process outsourcing for financial, healthcare, and insurance clients in North America. The Atlanta facility will add financial accounting, insurance processing and technical help desk support positions.
A health technology company will move its employees from a northern suburb of Fulton County to Midtown in Atlanta in an expansion effort. Athenahealth will take up residence in the penthouse of Ponce City Market which is the redevelopment of the mammoth former Sears store. The company provides internetbased electronic health records, practice management and care coordination services to medical groups, hospitals and health systems. The expansion move will take about five years to complete and will create 700 new, high paying jobs.
A Fulton County firm is reaping the benefits of other companies' outsourcing their customer service and lead generation services. VoiceNation, LLC expanded into the call enter business in 2009 and provides 24-hour answering services including customer service, sales and website order processing for small and mid-sized businesses and Fortune 500 companies. The Atlanta company plans to add 200 new employees to keep up with demand.
In Harris County a poultry processing company has announced a substantial expansion with an investment of $49 million. Koch Foods will continue to grow their Pine Mountain Valley plant by adding new production lines and 750 new employees. When the project is complete the facility will employ 1,400 people. The company was founded in 1973 and began as a one-room chicken deboning and cutting operation.
A vacuum refurbishing company in Richmond County is increasing its workforce nearly sevenfold during the next two months. America Remanufacturing Co. has landed a contract with TTI Floor Care North America, Inc. to refurbish all Hoover and Dirt Devil vacuums returned to major retailers across the country. The Augusta facility will add 80 new employees to handle the increase in business.
