New Developments

Northside Hospital System plans to develop a $250 million campus in Cherokee County in an attempt to shore up the company's market share in the fastgrowing North Atlanta suburb. The Canton facility will include an 84-bed replacement hospital and a 100,000 square foot multi-specialty medical office building. The project is expected to generate up to 500 jobs and is called for because the existing hospital is cramped and landlocked. Additionally, the company is positioning itself in this locale due to the fact that Cherokee County is expected to be Georgia's fifth most populous county by 2020.
Another company is moving its headquarters to Fulton County. Proximus Mobility, currently based in Naples, FL, works with hotels, retailers, advertising agencies and others to provide localized digital content to consumers' mobile phones. The move to Atlanta is prompted because the company wanted the opportunity to be located near potential clients and partners like Delta Airlines, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, CNN, Coca-Cola, Home Depot and NCR as well as having access to experienced wireless and mobile software development talent. The new location in Technology Square in Midtown will create 100 jobs over the next three years.
A call center in Glynn County is in the process of hiring 700 employees. GSI Commerce, a company that handles e-commerce for the eBay online auction website has been in the hiring mode to fill the necessary number of positions that they need to meet their goals. The Georgia Department of Labor has been assisting in the effort to help the company staff their Brunswick facility.
A new distribution center in Spaulding County will account for 70 new jobs to boost the local economy. HK Logistics, a leading provider of critical logistics services including receiving and supplier validation, warehousing, kitting, sub-assembly, sequencing of material and third-party inventory will build their new facility in Green Valley Industrial Park in Griffin. The construction of the 160,000 square foot center will begin right away and is scheduled to be completed by summer of 2012.
A new Whitfield County retail operation expects to hire 130 workers in advance of its opening next month. Kohl's is constructing a 55,482 square foot building on Shugart Road in Dalton. The company will need register operators, department associates, customer service workers, early morning freight unloaders and evening ad set associates.

Whitfield County has celebrated the grand opening of SwissTex America. The company's new headquarters will create 15 new jobs for the community from a $1.2 million investment. The company produces equipment for complete yarn extrusion plants in Switzerland and in France and produces twisting machinery for the global fiber market. The Dalton office will provide replacement part and maintenance service for the company's existing customers.
Manhattan Associates, a supply chain company, and NexTraq, a company that does GPS fleet tracking, are both expanding in Fulton County. The former is hiring 100 more people, mostly electrical engineers, computer scientists and those with logistics expertise and the latter's 20 new employees will be mostly for Web and marketing positions. Both companies are located in Atlanta.
A Gwinnett County educational institution has increased the members of its faculty by 32 percent since the fall of 2010. Georgia Gwinnett College, which opened its doors five years ago with ten charter faculty members and 118 students, has added 180 new instructors to bring their count to about 500 to teach their 8,400 students at the Lawrenceville campus.
A consolidation of operations in St. Louis and Chicago offices will result in a substantial employment increase at a Gwinnett County employer. RockTenn will spend $5 million to expand their Norcross headquarters fueled by significant financial incentives from the state and county. The jobs are expected to be in accounting, finance, information technology, procurement and supply chain functions.
Firth Rixon Forgings, a relatively new employer in Liberty County, has already announced expansion plans. The floor space will be increased to 200,000 square feet that will house their new isothermal forging press, along with a fully automated manufacturing line. The expansion will result in 75 to 100 new jobs at the Midway facility.
The beef processing operation at a Richmond County employer will be expanded by opening a new facility. FPL Food, LLC will invest $3 million in the project which will create 100 new jobs. The Augusta employer is the largest privately held beef processor in the Southeast. The company serves a range of customers including food service, retail, military and export operations.
