New Developments

Geo Group, a private correctional institution management company, is beginning to list job openings for their new Riverbend Correctional Facility in Baldwin County. The campus will be located on Laying Farm Road between the new Midway School and the Central State Hospital Fishing Pond. Construction is continuing and the prison is scheduled to open this winter with its activation date being early next year. Once fully operational the company expects to employ approximately 300 people.
A new training facility in Early County has plans to become the largest facility of its kind in the U.S. The groundbreaking for the American International Marksmanship Academy (AIM) has taken place in Blakely and the private shooting facility will provide training and education to the military, law enforcement agencies and civilians. AIM expects to offer 100 new jobs immediately to the area, 200 jobs after two years and up to 400 jobs when the facility is fully operational. Being in close proximity to Fort Benning and Fort Rucker in Alabama was the primary reason for the choice of this location.
It has been announced that a construction equipment manufacturer will open its headquarters and warehouse facility in Gwinnett County. Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas was formed in 1991 and offers 18 models of excavators, four models of forestry machines and six wheel loaders. The Atlantic Boulevard location in Norcross will represent a $10 million investment. The company expects this location to begin operation this fall and will hire some 100 employees over the next five years.
Kaiser Permanente of Georgia is planning expansions at one of their medical office facilities in Cobb County and one in Gwinnett County. The company's location in Duluth and the TownPark location in Kennesaw will both be adding approximately 100 new employees. These expansions will create state-of-the-art medical centers and the Duluth location is expected to be operational next spring.
Twenty-two individuals have been hired to assist the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its staff of disaster employees at its joint field office in Fulton County. This Atlanta based team was expanded to support the local recovery efforts that

are underway in the areas affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes of April 27-28 of this year. The positions filled by local hires ranged from administrative assistants to civil engineers, from computer trainers to writing specialists and from finance specialists to logistical specialists.
A Fulton County employer is looking for more office space as it continues to add jobs and reinvestment in research and development. Newell Rubbermaid Inc. has committed to lease an additional 107,000 square feet In One Glenlake office building in Sandy Springs which is next door to the company's global headquarters at Three Glenlake. The additional space will house 65 new research and development employees they are in the process of hiring.
An in-state move by a paper-based packaging products company will create new jobs in Gwinnett County. BagcraftPapercon whose growth has caused their current location to become too cramped for their needs has invested $7.3 million on a renovation and outfitting of an unused warehouse in Norcross. By year's end 66 new jobs are expected to be created. The company produces packaging products for the food services industry.
Johnson Controls and Daehan Solutions are following suit with their client, Kia Motors Corporation, and adding new employees at their Harris County plants to be able to provide the necessary parts required by the auto manufacturer. The addition to the Kia production line of a third model, the Kia Optima sedan, will in turn create 175 new positions at Johnson Controls who provides their customer with seats and door panels. Daehan Solutions will add 150 new employees to manufacture additional sound insulation materials that include carpeting and interior foam for Kia.
Spalding County will benefit from a $120 million capital investment at Caterpillar's Griffin Engine Center. The facility in Griffin assembles engines and generator sets for more than six different engine models. The project is expected to take three years to complete and will create 206 new jobs.
